Patient Letter
Changes to How You Request a GP Appointment
From 2 February 2026, we are introducing an improved way for patients to request help from the practice. The aim is to make access fair, safe, and based on clinical need. This new approach is in line with current NHS guidance and is widely used across GP practices.
What is changing
-
GP appointments will no longer be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.
-
You will not need to phone at 8:30am to request an appointment.
-
Every request for an appointment will be reviewed by the practice’s GP led clinical triage team to make sure you receive the right care.
How it will work
1. You submit a request:
-
-
You will be asked to provide information about your symptoms and concerns.
-
This is usually done using a short online form via our website or the NHS app.
-
If you cannot access or complete the form, our reception team can help you fill it in over the phone.
-
2. The GP-led triage team reviews your request on the same day in most cases:
-
-
They decide the safest and most appropriate next step.
-
3. You are advised on what happens next:
- This may include:
-
-
a GP appointment
-
advice provided via text message or phone
-
arranging further tests
-
referral to another service such as a community pharmacy or optometrist.
-
How you can help us to help you
To help this system work safely and effectively, we ask that patients:
-
Provide clear and relevant detail when submitting your request. Without this information, we won’t be able to get you the right care.
-
Be available to receive a phone call or text message.
-
Attend appointments offered, or let us know promptly if you cannot.
-
Follow the advice provided by your GP
Getting ready
If you do not already have online access, we encourage you to set this up in advance (Online Services). Our team can help if needed. We will be holding drop in sessions to help you with our online services at our Leylands and Wrose sites on the 21st January between 1pm and 6pm, and on the 29th January between 10am and 12pm. Please bring photographic ID with you.
